Weight Loss Diet Plan That’s Realistic And Sustainable

A girlfriend of mine is getting married at the end of this month and she asked me what she should do in 3 weeks to prepare for it! I gave her my honest opinion: cut back on carbs, drink lots of water, eat more often. She asked me if it was too late for her to start lifting and if she should stick to real barre classes and her orange theory, which is mostly full body exercise but no weight lifting.

Of course, I told her it’s never too late to take. I think most women think that when you lift, especially when you lift heavy, you bulk up, and that’s not true. To reduce your body fat %, you need to increase your muscle mass, which is done by strength training and eating enough protein, nutrition, etc. Cutting down on carbs can help you lose fat because excess carbs that aren’t burned off immediately will eventually be stored as fat.

Extra cardio, or an extra HIIT session every week, can help with fat burning and loss, especially if you’re on a ‘deadline’, but remember the 2 most important things are 1) strength training and 2) nutrition

Here are some ‘rules’ I have to have for 3 Week Slim Down, and if I have a specific event I want to watch ‘extra’ I will follow:

: I will calculate how many carbs you eat in a typical day and subtract it, depending on how much you normally eat. If you eat more than 180 grams, I would reduce it by 40-60 grams. If you are eating 120g – 160g, I would reduce it by 20g in the first week. Over the next two weeks, he reduced by 10 grams each time. If you don’t normally track your calorie intake in My Fitness Milk – I highly recommend that you do! You want to eat the same amount of protein as your body weight, if not more. However, I think it’s more important to track your carbs during these weeks, so you can always track them instead. Overall, you want to keep your protein the same, lower your carbs, and every time you lower your carbs, you want to increase your fats because they’re a ratio!

Eat clean, eat often! You want to keep your metabolism up by eating often and not feeling hungry. On the weekend you can eat 1 medium cheat meal and you can always have a glass of dry wine.

I recommend drinking 100 ounces, especially if you’re doing HIIT and you want to stay hydrated. Water is an important part of fat loss, so don’t miss this part!

Wednesday: Bring an exercise class you love! If the class doesn’t include cardio make sure you do it!

Challenge: If you want to do it, do some cardio! But don’t be too hard on yourself – know when your body needs rest. I love extra stretching and foam rolling on this day.
