After posting “before and after” weight loss pictures on Instagram, a reader asked how weighing and measuring food affected my relationship with food and what kind of message that would send to my children in the future.

To be transparent, I never suffer from an eating disorder beyond the days when I usually overeat because I’m angry at the world or because the food is so delicious.

After thinking about this question, I realized that there is a difference between weighing and measuring food because you have a bad relationship with food, and you do it to make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need.

When it comes to healthy eating, I believe that intention determines the food relationship. Now that I’m focused on my performance goals (building muscle and running faster), I need every ounce of protein and every gram of carbs to fuel my body. I don’t want to overeat, because gaining weight will limit my ability to run fast and see muscle.

When the goal is based on aesthetics, I think the relationship with food can be complicated. Instead of eating for athletic performance, you’re trying to control your appearance, and that’s a losing battle and doesn’t measure up.

So, if you think your athletic performance could benefit from a controlled meal plan, read the 1500 calorie macro meal plan.

Shane has me eat 150 grams of protein, 150 grams of carbs, and 40 grams of protein [with 225 carbs per week, even though I’m not on this plan].

I have listed all the meals with macros and you can also print the meal plan here. If you need recipes and a shopping list, get the printables at the bottom of this post or here.
