A brief overview of OSHA standards is included. The aim is to provide the participant with the tools and knowledge to provide a safe working environment for both patients and dental health professionals. Course Description: This course will cover concepts associated with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the written regulations that apply to dentistry. Dental professionals include organizations that must take steps to protect their patients’ health information. Dental practices must review their notice of privacy practices, develop written plans, assess risks, review business-related agreements, understand how to prevent breaches, and have safeguards in place to deal with breaches, should they occur. This document is intended to be a summary of the key elements of HIPAA rather than a complete or complete guide to compliance.

Course Description: Participants in this course will be provided with information that will help them better understand the oral-systemic link as it applies to cardiovascular disease. This will include detection of linkages, common risk factors, and biological mechanisms by which linkage and host response may occur. Special emphasis will be placed on the mechanisms – direct attack, platelet aggregation, immune response, inflammatory response and oxidative stress – to help the clinician better understand the connection between oral and systemic disease.
