Dental professionals are among the groups that must take action to protect patients’ health information. Dental practices update notices of privacy practices, develop written plans, conduct risk assessments, update business partnership agreements, understand how to avoid breaches, and address breaches if they occur. There should be a safeguarding process. This document is not a complete or comprehensive guide to compliance, but rather a summary of the key elements of HIPAA.
Course Description: Participants in this course are given information to help them better understand the oral-systemic link as it applies to cardiovascular disease. This includes the discovery of links, common risk factors, and host responses, as well as possible biological mechanisms by which the links occur. Special emphasis will be placed on pathways such as direct invasion, platelet aggregation, immune response, inflammatory response and oxidative stress to help clinicians better understand the link between oral disease and systemic disease.

This course will cover the most common precancerous, cancerous and benign oral pathologies that dental professionals see in their clinical practice.
